Corpus Christi teen creates 'everlasting memory' for mom and takes her to prom

From the moment he learned what prom was, Corpus Christi high school senior Joe Moreno knew who he would ask to be his date — his mom.

Moreno, an 18-year-old student at Collegiate High School, said in a now-viral tweet that he wanted to give his mom, Vanessa Moreno, a night she was never able to experience when she was in high school.

"My mom had me at the age of 17 she dropped out of high school to focus on giving me her all. Last night I gave her the prom night she never had," he said in the tweet that has more than 26,000 retweets and 163,000 likes.

Moreno told mySA.com his mom loved her night at prom, which was held April 13.

"She was really emotional and really excited for the night to come," he said. "My mom loved it. I loved just being able to create that everlasting memory for me and my mother."

In photos that Moreno shared, it's clear his mom had a good time. The teen's friends were also supportive of the idea.

"(They) loved how I did this," he said.
