At least fifteen passengers were injured on an Aerolinas Argentinas flight that encountered “turbulence of a severe intensity” en route from Miami to Buenos Aires Thursday.
Aerolinas Argentinas flight 1303 left Miami just after 9 a.m. with 192 passengers aboard.
The plane encountered the turbulence during the “cruise” portion of the flight according to a statement from the airline.
Photos shared on social media show a disheveled cabin — food trays were ejected from their carts and oxygen masks hung from the plane’s ceiling.
A rod holding up a curtain separating the crew’s quarters from the main cabin appears to have fallen.
The plane’s aisle was also littered with trays holding passengers’ meals.
Seven of the injured passengers were treated at Ezeiza airport, while eight were taken to the hospital.
“Once the turbulence zone was crossed, the crew in charge of the flight was dedicated to assist the injured passengers and to relieve the general state of the 192 passengers,” Aerolineas Argentinas said in a statement.
