Two tourists who sprayed graffiti on a wall while visiting Thailand are now facing up to 10 years in prison for the incident.
According to Reuters.com, 23-year-olds Furlong Lee and Brittney Schneider, from England and Canada respectively, were arrested at a guest house in Chiang Mai Thursday after surveillance footage showed the pair spray-painting a red brick wall.
The vandalism took place in the old town section of Chiang Mai near Tha Phae Gate and the graffiti read “Scouser Lee.” The tourists were transported to the area’s provincial court and are being held there while the investigation continues.
Police Major Anon Cherdchutrakulthong told Reuters the man and woman were likely intoxicated at the time of the vandalism and now face up to 10 years in jail and fines of over $30,000 each.
“They admitted to the crime,” Cherdchutrakulthong said. “When people visit somewhere they should know not to (leave) graffiti.”
