- Infiniti has shared some of its plans for five new models in the next three years, three of which will feature new electrified powertrains.
- An SUV based on the QX Inspiration concept will feature the brand's first all-electric powertrain.
- A pair of sedans based on the Q Inspiration and Qs Inspiration concepts will feature a version of parent company Nissan's e-Power gas-generated EV/hybrid arrangement.
At an event celebrating the brand's 30th anniversary, Infiniti announced plans to roll out five new vehicles within the next three years, three of which will sport new electrified powertrains. The plan will kick off with the upcoming QX55 SUV-coupe, and—if we had to guess—a replacement for the company's aging QX60 mid-size three-row SUV, both of which will have traditional gas engines. The new electrified models will arrive after that.
A flagship sedan based on the Q Inspiration concept and a second, smaller sedan based on the Qs Inspiration concept will both be powered by a version of Nissan's e-Power gasoline-generated hybrid powertrain that will use the brand's VC-Turbo variable-compression turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as a generator that feeds a small battery pack, which in turn powers the electric motors.
An all-electric SUV based on the QX Inspiration concept will be Infiniti's first foray into pure EVs. The all-electric powertrain will consist of two electric motors and a floorpan full of batteries. This arrangement is common among EVs such as the Tesla Model 3 and the Nissan Leaf hatchback; all-wheel drive will be standard, and we suspect the Infiniti electric crossover will share components with the upcoming Nissan Ariya.
As for when we can expect these vehicles to roll out, the QX55 SUV coupe should first arrive in 2020, while the other four models will follow in succession within the next three years.
